These 2 screenings are a benefit for the Burning Man theme camp, Black Rock Boutique. The Black Rock Boutique is THE fashion headquarters at Burning Man. Since 1996 we’ve been a fixture on the Playa, helping Burners creatively self-express with funky, freaky, furry, fabulous clothing. You’ll find us at Center Camp every year under our Dome of Fashion. All afternoon (from 1 – 5 PM) we’ve scheduled a clothing sale of SUPER COOL BURNING MAN ATTIRE!! Each film screening will be preceded by a runway strut of the latest in Playa fashions.

This is the LA première! Dust & Illusions has toured the country slowly since 2009, and has filled every single theater where it was shown. For the 1st time, a documentary about Burning Man looked at the history, a lot of it missing from the official twist. It is also the only film out of multiple dozens of them that actually brings a critical look at an event often described as very open-minded. Come and learn the true history, and look at how the largest counter-cultural event has now become a multi-million dollar business.
The DIRECTOR will be in attendance for Q&A. Tickets are available through the American Cinematheque’s website. I’m not sure that this will sell out again, but American Cinematheque forces you to use Fandango to buy tickets, and you are forced to pay a fee of $1.25 for each ticket. I highly recommend not to buy tickets ahead of time, and buy them at the box office.

Dust & Illusions is the only documentary film about Burning Man (BM) that tells you 30 years of history, going back into the underground movements of 1970s San Francisco that made it all possible. This is not a film that’s trying to re-create the BM experience, but rather a thoughtful, critical and balanced perspective on this event.
The film will show only once in Melbourne, and will not be available on DVD in order continue creating community gathering around the subject. We will do a video Q&A after the film with the director from San Francisco.
The Rainbow Serpent Festival has generously offered to give away 2 tickets to their 2011 session, to two lucky audience members. You just have to get a ticket to the screening of the film and be there on the day of the screening to be included in a lottery to win one of those 2 tickets. This is a very unique chance!
