It was a success last year with media talking about the film. Burning Man is coming into its 25 years since the 1st one on the beach in San Francisco. It has come a long way since then, and DUST & ILLUSIONS is an important look at the evolution from the underground of San Francisco to the large commercial event it has become in the desert of Nevada. It is a great opportunity to reflect on the meaning of the event and where we would all like to take it!

The screening is hosted by ADM, the organizers of the infamous Robodock festival. Robodock has hosted numerous artists from Burning Man in their past editions. Dust & Illusions is the acclaimed documentary film that dives into 30 years of history of Burning Man. This is really the only film that goes back into the underground movements of the late 1970s in San Francisco, and looks at the evolution of the now largest counter-cultural movement in North America. The film asks whether the festival has sold out its original identity to appeal better to its now mainstream audience.

After 1 year of sold out screenings through the states, and 3 sold out screenings in Seattle, the city wants more, so here it is. The film will be screened in conjunction to the fundraiser organized by Burners Collective at the University of Washington. A portion of the proceeds will be used to fund creative research and service learning projects for UW students attending Burning Man in 2010.

After the screening of the film we will have 1.5 hour to discuss the implication of a Burners Collective at the University of Washington, and how it fits into the larger picture of doing research in this social experiment. Burning Man is often tagged as a simple rave for druggies, and we ask, does BM have more to offer?, where is the event going after 25 years of existence?
